Lee Stafford on Clicks LiveLee Stafford’s had his range of hair care products within Clicks stores for over 2 years. What I didn’t know was how huge his body of work is back in the UK! He was voted best British Hairstylist, Most Influential Hairdresser of the Year as well as Celebrity Hairstylist of the year. He’s featured on Britain’s Next Top Model, Ready Steady Cook as well as taken the soul-searching journey on Secret Millionaire. He’s engaged to Jessica-Jane Clement of The Real Hustle fame (we share a birthday!), this man has it all.

He visited Clicks Live in order to chat about his range of products in Clicks stores and it was an absolute pleasure to talk to someone who such a huge body of work. He was really lovely, open and friendly. Definitely one of my best interviews to date. :)

P.S Worst picture of me! But a picture’s still a picture. ;)

Wedding Gig 5/2012 at Vineyard Hotel, 19.01.13

Liesbeek River at the Vineyard HotelI hadn’t been to the Vineyard Hotel in about 10 years. I drive past it frequently but for some reason I just never saw it as a venue to visit. This is ironic because the last time I went there  it was to visit someone! I recalled green trees but I had forgotten just how pretty is it under the lush Newlands fauna. Luckily, I was booked as wedding DJ at the start of this year so I was able to return to the venue and familiarise myself with the premises once again.

The 19th of January was an absolutely gorgeous day in the Mother City. I walked down the garden path to help set up the sound for the ceremony for the day and it was balmy under the shade of the trees next to the Liesbeek creek.

Wedding DJ at the Vineyard HotelMy part of the gig, however, was not under the trees but rather in the banqueting section of the hotel. I set up and welcomed the guests with some bright music. It’s summer time so it’s nice to enjoy a dusk cocktail to an optimistic beat.

Later that evening I worked along side Hayden and the Hot Shots, a wedding swing band provided by Shout MC. I played in between their sets and after the band. The banqueting room at the Vineyard was beautifully dressed and the Shout MC lights which added the perfect about of fun for the wedding.

Gangham Flower Girl Style

The little flower girls (and Moms ;) ) absolutely loved Psy’s Gangham Style which went down a few times during the evening. Over all it was a lovely evening at the Vineyard. I had lots of fun playing modern pop music for the guests. I hope to work again at the Vineyard in the new future.

Wedding Gig 4/2012, Nooitgedacht, 12.01.13

Dusk in StellenboschOne of my best friends got married in Franschoek and it was such a special day. Because of this, I’m always happy to drive out to the Boland to celebrate a couple’s happy day. This time, however, I’d be wedding DJing for the young couple, their family and guests.

Entrance to Cellar

This December saw me travel to the outskirts of Stellenbosch, to the famed Nooitgedacht, just off the R44. It was a scorcher of a day in Cape Town and usually the temperatures are about 5 degrees hotter in land. This meant it was a perfect, windless evening in the winelands.

The bride and groom are both South African but have been living in Canada. What a beautiful way to show off their home country to their foreign friends! The reception began with canapés on the lawn whilst the bride and groom went off for their first newly married couple’s shoot. Live jazzy music was provided by Shout MC to entertain the guests whilst they enjoyed an evening toast.

Table Settings at NooitgedachtOnce the guests moved inside the hall, a converted old cellar to be precise, which provided cool relief from the 30+ degree weather in Stellenbosch. I played a mix of modern folk styled tunes, down tempo house tunes and old school rock n roll songs whilst the guests enjoyed their dinner.

After the speeches it was party time. The main bar was not in the banqueting hall so guests came and went between the bar and main dance floor. Over all the bride and groom were very happy with the night’s festivities and even the grooms men seemed to have a good time. ;)

Rock n Roll!

Interview: EWP’s Germinah Nyikana on Clicks Live

Germinah on Clicks LiveEach Thursday morning Clicks Live presents the Employee Wellness Program (EWP) with specialist guests in studio. This week was Germinah Nyikana, the Group Learning and Development Manager at Clicks HQ. Germinah discussed the feedback which was returned from the survey that was sent out to Clicks employees about the program.

Wedding Gig 3/2012 at Langverwacht, 19.12.12

Banqueting AreaMy last wedding DJing gig for 2012 was held at the rustic Langverwacht on the Zewenwacht estate in Kuilsrivier, Cape Town.

The bride was South African and the groom was German so the wedding was small and intimate. We (my brother, Dan, and I) arrived early to set up. The reception was held in an old cellar, therefore, I would be sitting around the corner so it was important for the mic sound to be perfect to avoid having to adjust it during speeches.

We set up the speakers, desk, lights and mic and were ready to go! It was a cheerful, intimate wedding on a beautiful summer’s night with no sound, music or equipment issues. Bring on wedding season 2013!

Party time! Congratulations to the bride and groom, Dirk and Annelise!

DJing at Knock Knock Bar, 21.12.12

Knock Knock Bar is a new, fun pop up bar in Cape Town. Hidden behind Heart 104.9FM, it’s been set up to create some summer fun for Cape Town. I was invited to DJ some rock n roll tunes for those who wanted to have a boogie on the night. Bring on the Beatles, Roy Orbison, Beach Boys, The Baseballs and more! Stop by for a fun themed drink in Green Point :)

I had 2 brave couples dancing at the end of the night even thought the lights were on LOL

Clicks Live EWP Feature, Melanie Marais, 06.12.12

EWPClicks Live is a fantastic retail radio platform due to the opportunities that the Clicks brand presents. Not only is Clicks a health, home and beauty store but they now have pharmacies, clinics and affiliate partners. This means the presenters have a lot of material to share throughout their shows, not to forget to mention communicating with the Clicks staff members in store. Staff dedications happen between 9:30 – 10:30am daily and within dedications there is a staff feature namely The Employee Wellness Feature (EWP).

EWP is hosted by the Clicks Live presenter on duty, featuring Rozelda Elliot head of Employee Wellness at the Clicks HQ and her invited guest. Since December 1st is World Aids day, Rozelda invited Melanie Marais, head of HIV and Aids Portfolio at Metropolitan Health, to Clicks Live. Metropolitan is the service provider for Clicks staff members. Melanie joined us to talk about the benefits associated with the EWP Metropolitan program.

Wedding Gig 2/2012 at De Uilenes, 08.12.12

IMG_2363Last weekend saw me venture out to Stanford for my second wedding gig of the 2012 wedding season. There are hundreds of farms in the Western Province, many of which Cape Town locals don’t visit very often as we’re spoilt for choice! I, however, am always keen for a road mission to visit another farm and explore a new corner of the Western Cape. Bring on De Uilenes!

The wedding was held at De Uilenes on the way to Gansbaai, 30 kilometers after Hermanus, just past Stanford. It was a beautiful, windless, summer’s day – lucky bride and groom!

This weekend’s couple are friends of ours, the groom went to high school with my brother and I went to the high school with the bride. These are fun weddings to DJ because you can play songs from “way back when” and have a great time.

Speaking of the bride and groom, they were responsible for all the decor at the venue and it looked beautiful. They had rustic table pieces, proteas, fairy lights, origami birds and cages hanging from the ceiling. The venue, De Uilenes, was also a peaceful, rustic location.

DJing at Lyndall & Chris's Wedding

De Uilenes had a huge fire pit which was a beautiful place to sit under the night sky FILLED with stars (you forget how many there are out there when you live in the city), a little dam with a boat tethered to a tree as well as single, double and dorm accommodation! Good for school camps too it seems ;)

Thanks to De Uilenes, Chris & Lyndall for having us, it was a great wedding and weekend away :)

This weekend kicked off the Shout MC wedding season on my side. With my new MAC in hand, I was excited to open the 2013 wedding season at the Grand Roche, just off the main road in Paarl. The groom was German and the bride South African, so it was fun to play to an international audience ;) They were very easy going and they had a ball. I had lots of fun too, seeing everyone dancing, singing, toasting, laughing, it was a great way to start the season and I look forward to more this summer.

Voice Overs for Tourism Radio, 16 Nov 12

Tourism Radio was one of the second voice over clients that I ever worked for years back. Initially they were based in the foreshore, they then moved their studios to Woodstock and now they’ve outsourced their studio work!

This Friday I worked with Mark for the first time. We recorded GPS tourism information for Tourism Radio/Humba. So next time you’re driving to the Knysna Elephant Park, I hope you’ll enjoy the information we share with you. ;)
